The Sonic Drill Advantage
01.
Quieter, straighter and three-times faster
Sonic drilling is a soil penetration technique that strongly reduces friction on the drill string and drill bit due to liquefaction, inertia effects and temporary reduction of porosity of the soil. This combination makes penetrating a large range of soils types more easily and significantly faster than traditional drilling methods. The penetration rates in most bedrock are also faster with this technology.
02.
Sonic vibration is central to the increased efficiency of our rigs
The oscillator within the drill head generates a high-frequency, resonant energy which is directed down into the drill string. During the drilling process, the resonant energy is combined with rotational movement – evenly distributing the energy which impacts the drill bit and drill string of tooling. Our drillers can control the amount of sonic vibration the drill head generates to match the force required to optimally penetrate the soil and bedrock formations.
03.
Less power means fewer problems
Due to the reduced friction on the length of the drill string, the Sonic Drill requires less power to achieve the same effect as traditional drilling. This unique characteristic prevents torsional forces on the drill string. Another benefit of applying sonic high frequency is the ease of retrieving the drill string, even in quick expanding clays, boulders or difficult soil structure conditions. All the drilling rods, casings and tooling are pulled faster and easier.
04.
The mechanical genius behind the Sonic Drill
When the Sonic Drill drill head is engaged, the entire drill string reaches a vibration frequency of up to 150 Hz. This causes a very thin zone that directly surrounds the drill string and drill bit – thereby enabling the soil and drill cuttings to be easily flushed and removed from the bore hole.
The vibrations of the drill bit cause the soil to lose structure which then changes the density and porosity of the soil. This results in the soil and cuttings moving easily within the sample barrel and up the drill string to help the tooling to advance freely. The liquefaction and inertia effects of the Sonic Drill allow us to collect long and continuous samples.
Additionally, due to the vertical high-frequency movement, the drill string stays extremely straight with very little deflection.
05.
Sonic Drill produces better sampling
- Higher sampling rate per day
- Higher quality samples in all types of geology
- Can be used in combination with conventional techniques
- Safe and ergonomic working method
Yesterday
In the past, sampling activities for mining and other sectors were often negatively influenced by the generally poor quality of samples obtained via traditional drilling methods. The slow advancement of the drill results in field specialists wasting their time, a drill grid that is insufficiently explored and increased costs.
Today
Our Sonic Drill rigs, together with our special soil samplers and rock coring tools have proven to produce the correct data in a far shorter time. Samples are long, show accurate depth information and are highly undisturbed.
Our rigs are safer, faster, more efficient, more productive and they will save you money.
That’s the Sonic Drill advantage!
