The Sonic Drill Advantage

01

Quieter, straighter and more efficient

Sonic drilling is a soil penetration technique that strongly reduces friction on the drill string and drill bit due to liquefaction, inertia effects and temporary reduction of porosity of the soil. This combination makes penetrating a large range of soils types more easily and significantly faster than traditional core drilling methods.

02

Sonic vibration is central to the increased efficiency of our rigs

The oscillator within the drill head generates a high-frequency, resonant energy which is directed down into the drill string. During the drilling process, the resonant energy is combined with rotational movement – evenly distributing the energy which impacts the drill bit and drill string of tooling. Our drillers can control the amount of sonic vibration the drill head generates to match the force required to optimally penetrate the soil and bedrock formations.

03

Less power means fewer problems

Due to the reduced friction on the length of the drill string, the Sonic Drill requires less power to achieve the same effect as traditional drilling. With much less water injected and no air, another benefit of applying sonic high frequency is the ease of retrieving the drill string, even in quick expanding clays, boulders or difficult soil structure conditions. All the drilling rods, casings and tooling are pulled faster and easier.

04

The mechanical genius behind the Sonic Drill

When the Sonic Drill head is engaged, the entire drill string reaches a vibration frequency of up to 150 Hz; effectively liquifying a thin zone that directly surrounds the drill string and drill bit enabling penetration.

The liquification and inertia effects of the Sonic Drill permit a collection of long and continuous samples as the string penetrates the formation.

Additionally, due to the vertical high-frequency movement, the drill string stays extremely straight with very little deflection.

05

Sonic Drill produces better sampling

  • Higher quality samples in all types of geology
  • Can be used in combination with conventional techniques
  • Safe and ergonomic working method

Conventional Techniques

Conventional sampling techniques often lead to gaps in the information gained from the drilling activities, poor quality of samples and large amounts of core loss reducing the end value to the client.

Sonic Sampling

Our Sonic Drill rigs, together with our special soil samplers and rock coring tools have proven to produce the accurate data in any formation. Samples are consistent, accurate and highly undisturbed.

Our rigs are safer, more efficient, more productive and they will save you money. That’s the Sonic Drill advantage!
